Wall of Honor at LT High

Interactive display of veterans debuts Monday

On Veterans Day, those who served our nation will get special recognition at events around the area.

One of those events Monday will bear even more significance.

A new Wall of Honor will be unveiled near the student cafeteria at the north campus of Lyons Township High School after a 12:30 p.m. assembly in the fieldhouse.

Jennifer Bialobok, community relations coordinator for the high school, said social students teacher Mike Morrison had the idea.

“He thought it would be a great idea to take all the plaques from around the campus and centralize it in one location,” Bialobok said Tuesday.

The Wall of Honor will be just outside north campus student cafeteria – which is visited by students daily – thus ensuring it will be seen by students every single school day.

“We took plaques from around the building, consolidated them. Another teacher and some students researched the history of the high school’s military service,” Bialobok said.

A touch monitor will allow visitors and students to search for graduates who have served by last name, branch of the service and their graduation year, she said.

Also included in the database is a timeline of the high school’s military history with photos from yearbooks and old newspaper articles, she said.

Two murals by student are displayed, along with student drawings and paintings of flags that were made shortly after 9-11.

Local veterans are invited to attend, she said.

They are asked to contact Peter Geddeis in the Student Activities Office at (708) 579-7444, or simply show up Monday, she said.

Honoring those who served our nation is important to Lyons Township High School.

This is the 10^th straight year Veterans Day assemblies will be held at each campus, she said. Another assembly is set for 9:15 a.m. Monday at the south campus.
