2nd candidate enters race to challenge Dan Lipinski for Congress

Rush Darwish, Community Organizer and Small Businessman, Announces Candidacy for U.S. Congress Illinois District 3. Darwish is the 2nd candidate to announce he will challenge incumbent Congressman Dan Lipinski who has held the office since 2005. His announcement follows the announcement of former Lipinski rival Marie Newman

Rush Darwish believes the majority of Washington leaders are brainwashed by PACS and special interest groups, Trump means trouble, and voters need a boost. Rush pledges it will no longer be about politicians, but rather about US!

Palos Hills, IL–As a long-time community organizer and activist in the Southwest Suburbs, Rush Darwish will lead the charge to fight Donald Trump’s nationalist ideology that is beginning to spread across the U.S., including our neighborhoods in IL-District 3. Rush will rise up for the people in his district to ensure that they get equal access to health insurance. He will also endeavor to serve as a social innovator to create jobs that offer a real living wage, to provide equal access to education, and to keep families together – no matter what their legal status is.

A Rush for Congress exploratory committee was formed in January 2019 to research various aspects of District 3 life to determine the most concerning issues people are facing. The committee was also set up to determine whether there is an honest path to victory.

“We did our homework, and one thing sticks out: Roughly 25% of eligible voters stayed home in the 2018 Democratic primaries for IL-District 3. This tells us most voters are either disengaged from politics or uninterested in the incumbent or his challenger,” Rush said. “My top priority during our campaign is to engage the disengaged and add thousands of people into our democratic process.”

Rush recently served on newly elected Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Transition Committee for Transportation and Infrastructure. He also currently serves on the Executive Board of AMVOTE PAC, an organization dedicated to promoting voter registration, voter information, and voter empowerment among residents in his district.

An award-winning, small business owner, Rush founded and operates Rush Productions, a top-rated multimedia production company in Chicago. Prior to launching his production company in 2006, Rush worked for 10 years as a news anchor/sports reporter for ABC and NBC affiliates in both Nebraska and Texas.

Announcement statement from Rush Darwish:

Today, I am running.

This time, it’s not a marathon or an ironman triathlon.

I am running for everyday people like you and me.

I am running for U.S. Congress to represent the people of the 3rd District of IL.

The inequality in our country is getting worse every day. We have a President that’s trying to divide us, and a Congressman that lacks the courage to stand up to him. We need a new leader to challenge Donald Trump’s fascist ideology head-on! I will:

Stand up against anyone who doesn’t fight for the underserved.
Rise up for families in IL District 3, ensuring they get access to quality, affordable healthcare.
Champion social innovation in our district to create jobs with real living wages, to provide equal access to education, and to keep families together no matter their legal status.

As your Congressman, I will always put you first: your issues, your rights, your opportunity.

The days of dark money, corporate PACs, and special interest groups controlling Washington are over.

Join me today to prove that Illinois District 3 is not about them, it’s about Us!

Rush Darwish, Candidate For Congress, IL-3rd District
