Summit tables paving contract

Officials to decide parking lot’s future

By Steve Metsch

The Summit Village Board on Monday night tabled plans to approve a $140,479 contract with M&J Asphalt, of Cicero, for the paving a gravel lot the village owns on 63rdStreet, behind Taste of Heaven on the west side of Archer.

“We are deciding if we do that kind of work on that, is it for all the businesses, or is it leased to one business? You can fit quite a few cars on the lot. It’s a lot of money to invest. We have to get the best bang for the dollar for our community,” Trustee Sam Dardovski said.

Mayor Sergio Rodriguez said Taste of Heaven “currently leases the lot from us, so we’re going to look at the options.”

In other business, the board approved paying $62,355 to Accu-Paving Company for repaving the police department parking lot.

In public comment, a resident asked if the village will place reflective materials on new decorative “bump outs” along 63rdStreet, saying a few have been hit by vehicles. Rodriguez said staff will look into the idea.

Another resident touted the St. John Summerfest set for 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Summit Park. There will be a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, games and entertainment.

“That should be a nice time. Cold beer. Lithuanian food,” Rodriguez said.

The Paradigm and Gabija will play music. The headliner is Andrius Mamontovas, a pop/rock band from Lithuania

Grand Duke’s Restaurant will sell a full slab of ribs with French fries and coleslaw for $15.99.

Rodriguez urged residents to attend the annual fireworks display in Summit Park at dusk July 3.

The board next meets at 7 p.m. July 16.
