Bremen HS district uses career readiness program to help reduce tuition

Bremen High School District 228 Saves Students More Than $300,000 In Tuition Through Career Readiness Programs

Bremen High School District 228 students earned 2,601 college credits through its 2018 Career Readiness Programs, saving students approximately $377,145 in free tuition. 17 classes were available for college credit at Bremen High School, Hillcrest High School, Oak Forest High School, and Tinley Park High School. Some of these classes include digital literacy, accounting, automotive technology, culinary arts, and forensics.

College credit is only one program offered by the district. Additionally, Career Readiness Programs include a variety of opportunities, activities, and industry credentials developed to engage students in real-world learning that extends past the classroom.

“Career Readiness plays a key function in preparing students to transition successfully towards a future career path,” says Renee Mack, Director of Career Readiness. “We encourage our students to learn about the world around them and how to make educational and occupational choices for their future.”

2,234 industry certifications were achieved by students. Some of these certifications include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), welding, adobe photoshop, and early childhood education. Other career experiences students participated in include job shadowing, hearing from speakers in their interested career paths, and a career expo where district seniors could plan for what’s next and interview for various jobs.

Bremen High School District 228 is located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and serves the communities of Midlothian, Posen, Tinley Park, Markham, Hazel Crest, Country Club Hills and Oak Forest. District 228 serves over 5,000 students and employs 613 full and part-time staff members. Bremen High School, in Midlothian, opened its doors to students in September of 1953. Since then, District 228 opened three additional schools. Tinley Park High School opened in 1961; Hillcrest High School, in Country Club Hills, opened in 1967; and Oak Forest High School opened in 1970.
