Bedford Park urges residents to report property damage from recent storm, apply for SBA support

Bedford Park, IL – The Village of Bedford Park is urging homeowners and businesses to document and report the damage they experienced during the severe weather storms on July 27.

Information should include your name, address and a description of the damage sustained. Photos can be included.

The fastest way to report the storm damage caused to your property is to use the online Illinois Residential Self-Assessment Survey form (link below).

Reporting damage to emergency management is voluntary. It does not guarantee disaster relief assistance and is not a substitute to reporting damage to your insurance agency, but the reports will help the State and Federal governments to issue Disaster Relief funding to property owners.

“We are working with officials in Cook County to secure disaster relief funding and reporting the damage will strengthen our push to receive it for our residents and businesses,” said Bedford Park Mayor David Brady.

“The county will coordinate with state officials in assessing the damage.”

Mayor Brady said residents can also qualify for SBA (Small Business Association) loans of up to $500,000 to cover. Damages to their primary homes. Homeowners and renters may receive up to $100,000 to replace personal property including vehicles.

“This was one of the worst storms we have experienced in years with seven tornadoes of various strength reported in the region by the National Weather Service. Fortunately, Bedford Park did not suffer the same level of damage as other surrounding suburbs, and no serious injuries, but it still has been difficult for many,” Mayor Brady said.

“The Village has been providing assistance to residents whose properties have been damaged. Public Works Department has been working 24/7 to pick-up damaged materials.”

Mayor Brady said that ComEd had informed the village that all electrical service should have been restored by Friday July 31.

Mayor Brady noted that the online damage reporting system is in English, Spanish, Polish, Ukrainian and Mandarin.
