Dad has two children – a ten-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter. Their mother had previously taken the children to the Philippines to visit their maternal relatives. However, the mother returned to the U.S., but without the children. Dad was shocked and traveled to the Philippines to recover his children and bring them back home himself. He had to fight against his children’s maternal relatives to bring the children home to Illinois but eventually won.
Sometime later, dad and his wife were embroiled in divorce proceedings. The mother reportedly kept the children’s passports out of the reach of dad and began threatening to take the children back to the Philippines again.
By this time, fortunately, Dad had called attorney Jeffery Leving for help in keeping his children safe and in the U.S.
Dad was terrified that the mother would take the children overseas again and succeed this time in leaving them there permanently – making it impossible for him to ever see them again. He feared he would lose his meaningful role in raising them as their father. The Leving legal team believed this was a severe threat.
This was a complex and difficult divorce – the kind of case that the Leving legal team has a great deal of experience and success in litigating. They fought hard in court and won. They obtained a court order compelling the mother to turn over the children’s passports to a court-appointed guardian ad litem and barring the mother from leaving the country with the children.
This victory, modified for publication, is huge for Dad. He no longer has to worry about his children being taken from him, put on an airplane, and deposited 8,000 miles away again. They’re now here with him in Illinois, and he’s seeing them regularly, as a father here should be able to do.
