Therapy under way to reunite dad and son
Fathers’ Rights attorney Jeffery M. Leving will speak on his weekly radio show about a case in which his law firm secured a long-sought victory. “We reunited a loving father with his young son,” Leving says. “It was a fierce battle, but we won. Failure was not an option for us.”
Leving will feature the case on this week’s Dads’ Rights Legal Hour, 9-10 a.m. CDT on Saturday, Aug. 26 on Power 92.3 FM in Chicago.
Listeners first heard about this case last year: “We learned that the relationship between Dad and his son had been torn apart, and we were tasked with rebuilding it,” says Leving, founder and president of the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving Ltd. in Chicago.
“It appeared to us that the relationship was so badly damaged that we felt that a reunification therapist would be needed to help the boy adjust to having his loving father back as part of his life.”
Last year, the Leving legal team won on a couple of fronts: They gained the removal of the child from the mother’s home, which they believed was a difficult location for the boy, and had the boy placed with one of his father’s relatives. They also overcame the mother’s opposition to the appointment of a therapist.
“Now, I’m pleased to inform you, we’ve won again,” Leving says.
“After a battle tougher than it should have been, the judge appointed a therapist and ordered a start to reunification therapy – so Dad can see his son again.”
The court also suspended the mother’s emergency petition seeking to regain custody, and ruled that the mother shall continue to have no contact with the child, until further order of the court.
“These are decisions which I believe are wise under the current circumstances to protect the boy,” Leving says.
“This is an important further victory in this case, modified for broadcast, which I hope and pray sets up a successful reunification for father and son. The father-child relationship here, once destroyed, must be rebuilt, and it’s like rebuilding a house. If you build a good foundation, it’ll withstand a hurricane. This dad did not give up hope, and neither did we – and we won for him.”
