Tinley firefighters rescue two children from apartment fire
The Tinley Park Fire Department late Tuesday morning responded to a fire in the 6500 block of West 173rd Place.
At the scene, firefighters located the fire on the first floor of a two-story, four-unit apartment building. Residents from the apartment building were outside and uninjured upon arrival. Crews located two children on the second floor and rescued them from their unit on ground ladders from a bedroom window. Medics treated and released the children at the scene.
The Tinley Park Fire Department called a MABAS box alarm, and the fire was under control by 11:30 a.m. The Oak Forest and Orland Park fire departments assisted Tinley Park firefighters at the scene.
A fire investigation is under way. The building is now uninhabitable, displacing four families.
