Democratic Nominee for Congress in Illinois’ Third District Marie Newman announced her endorsement Tuesday (May 12, 2020) of Mara Candelaria Reardon for Congress in Indiana’s First Congressional District.
“We need more bold progressives in Congress, period. That’s why I enthusiastically endorse Mara Candelaria Reardon for Indiana’s 1st Congressional District,” said Newman.
“For Hoosiers seeking a true Democrat and progressive champion, the choice could not be more clear — during her six terms in the Indiana General Assembly, Mara has proven she has what it takes to make healthcare accessible and affordable, fight climate change, and stand up for American workers. I know what it’s like to take on a political legacy and win; I look forward to seeing Mara do the same on June 2nd.”
“Marie’s primary win was not only an inspiration but a victory for women, for reproductive rights, and for Democrats everywhere who want representation that truly reflects their values,” said Rep. Candelaria Reardon.
“After her historic primary win, I’m honored that Marie has endorsed my campaign and lent her invaluable support.”
The endorsement of Candelaria Reardon is Marie Newman’s first federal endorsement since her March victory over 8-term incumbent Dan Lipinski. Marie Newman defeated Lipinski by a 2.5% margin in a crowded Democratic field, giving her the Democratic nomination and an opportunity to run in the November general election.
Marie Newman is running for Congress in the Illinois 3rd Congressional District to build an economy that works for everyone, and for practical solutions to fix our broken healthcare system and build an equitable path forward for workers and working families as we emerge from the COVID-19 crisis.
