Chicago, Detroit best cities for Police
A new ranking list by Safety.com found cities such as Chicago and Detroit on 2019’s Top Cities for Police Officers. They studied nearly 300 cities and metropolitan areas across the nation, including the major cities of Los Angeles and New York. Their analysts determined this ranking by using key statistics from sources such as the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Tool and the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment Statistics. The key statistics they used to determine the ranking included police officer wages, total crime amounts, typical and extreme event workload.
Home of Long Island, NY, the counties of Nassau and Suffolk made the top of the list, while five of the top ten cities and metro areas are all located in California. California had the most cities and metro areas of any other state with 25. Florida was a close second with 20 cities and metro areas making the list, while Pennsylvania and Texas each had 18. Most of the cities and areas that made the top 100 list are from the northeast, while none were found in the southeast (except for the 18 in Florida).
Another feature that stands out in their report is their top 5 rankings based on population, beginning with a population of 1 million people or more down to cities and metro areas with a population under 125k. Smaller cities such as Gettysburg and State College also made the list.
