Video: Orland Fire commemorates 9/11 victims

The Orland Fire Protection District held a Memorial Service Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 to commemorate and remember first responders and Americans who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks 16 years ago.

The service was held at the OFPD’s Firefighter Memorial at its headquarters in Orland Park, 9790 West 151st Street, at 8:30 am.

Firefighters installed a memorial flag to remember the firefighters, and victims, who lost their lives or were injured that day.

An Honor Guard raised the American Flag and conducted a Bell Ceremony and included remarks by Orland Fire Chief Michael Schofield and prayers from Fire Chaplain John Vogel.

Each year the District remembers their fellow firefighters who lost their lives in this tragic event. Never Forget.

“This commemoration is to honor the firefighters from New York City and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice as they sought to save the lives of civilians in the Twin Tower buildings,” Schofield said.

“Those firemen whose lives were taken gave the ultimate sacrifice. They were doing their jobs. They didn’t think about themselves. They were thinking about how they could help the people who were in the buildings. They went into those buildings to rescue people and that was all that was on their minds. We commemorate them each year with this ceremony.”
