Carl Sandburg band invited to London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2024
Carl Sandburg High School band has been selected to participate in one of the most prestigious and exclusive events in the world – London’s New Year’s Day Parade and Festival 2024.
Dignitaries from London’s Parade and Festival will be on hand Wednesday, March 15, at 2:20pm in the Sandburg Performing Arts Center to extend the formal invitation to students.
London’s New Year celebrations have been dubbed ‘the greatest event in the greatest city in the world’.
In the Parade, Sandburg Eagles will be performing to a street audience of over half a million people, with up to 340 million all around the world watching on television.
In the Festival Concert Series, band members will be performing to packed houses in some of London’s most prestigious music venues.
Parade Founder and Executive Director Bob Bone will discuss events in which students will be among the ‘stars of the show’ in 2024.
Students will view a short film that captures the spirit and flavor of London’s New Year’s Day Parade and Festival. Parade Patron Duncan Sandys will share the welcome students will receive in London and some of the things that students will be doing. Duncan is particularly well placed to do this as he served as Lord Mayor of The City of Westminster a number of years ago. Westminster is, of course, at the heart of London and is the venue for London’s New Year’s Day Parade. Duncan is also a member and past President The London Mayors’ Association, an organization that represents every mayor in London’s 31 boroughs and its two cities.
At the conclusion of the presentation, Bone and Sandys will make an on-stage presentation of the formal invitation to come to London.
