Podcast: The Politics of Massacres, race in America and are we great?
Veteran columnist, author and former Chicago City Hall reporter Ray Hanania talks about three big issues in this episode of the “Ray Hanania on Politics” podcast.
The first is the politics of Massacres. Why is there a difference in how the mainstream news media covers the killings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas this past weekend, and the ongoing weekly massacres taking place in Chicago?
Racism is political, too. In 1986, Hanania reported on the racism of the Chicago City Seal. How politicians reacted to the issue then compared with how they react to the symbols of racism in Civil War statutes today is very different.
And finally, Hanania wonders why Americans are not reaching for the stars the way we did in 1969 when Neil Armstrong became the first human being to step on the surface of the Moon? America is not doing enough and it isn’t just because of President Trump. We have lost our enthusiasm for greatness and its been like that for decades.
