Duckworth introduces law to crack down on illegal robocalls

U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth Thursday (May 2, 2019) introduced legislation that would crackdown on illegal robocalls, which she said have increased by more than 57 percent over the past year. Duckworth is proposing a petition to help get the legislation passed and she is asking members of the public to sign the petition

I’m writing today to talk about an issue that affects millions of Americans every day: illegal robocalls.

If you feel like you’ve been getting more illegal calls recently, you’re not imagining things! Robocalls reportedly increased by 57 percent over the last year, and CNN found that nearly HALF of cell phone calls in 2019 are expected to be spam. It’s understandable that folks are annoyed!

That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor the bipartisan TRACED Act, which cracks down on illegal robocallers. Do you think Congress should pass the TRACED Act? If so, sign my petition here:

If you think it’s time for our government to crack down on illegal robocallers, sign my petition and tell Congress to pass the TRACED Act now.

I know this might not seem like the biggest issue, but illegal robocalls aren’t just annoying — they’re often predatory.

Scammers will target senior citizens and people with debt by pretending to be the IRS, student loan officers or debt collectors in order to cheat them out of money or personal information. There have even been reports that scammers have pretended to kidnap people’s loved ones and called to demand ransoms!

Illegal robocalls are frustrating at best, and threatening at worst. It’s time we do something about them. That’s why I ask:
