Local veterans given assignments in the U.S. Navy:

U.S. Navy Seaman Shamique Clarke, from Joliet, Illinois, operates a sliding padeye while aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) in the Arabian Gulf, Jan. 11, 2019. The John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points. ARABIAN SEA (Jan. 8, 2019) Seaman Joe Reiss handles a line  aboard Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) during a replenishment-at-sea while on a deployment of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).
