$17 million invested in Sauk Village announced

Mayor Derrick Burgess is very pleased to hear that SET Enterprises in Sauk Village announced that they will be the very first in North America to have a Laser blanking line.  SET provides stamped parts for Ford Motor Company and has been in business in Sauk Village for over two decades.

SET will have a capital investment of $17 million in the Sauk Village plant expansion.  The new line will be the first high-output system of its kind used in North America and truly places SET Enterprises apart from their competition as an Advanced Metal Processing Technologies company.  “As Mayor I am very pleased that SET Enterprises has agreed to expand operations here in Sauk Village and so boldly with a $17 million investment” Burgess said.   “Economic Development is a key component to our Strategic Plan for Progress” Burgess said.

The new line will go into production in 2019 to produce blanks for exposed and unexposed automotive stampings.  The automotive supplier ultimately chose the Schuler Laser Blanking system because of its demonstrated high output capability and flexibility offered by the Dynamic Flow Technology.

This features three laser heads with the ability to simultaneously cut blank shapes of all types with straight line cutting speeds of over 100 m/min from a coil-fed, continuously forward-moving strip of coiled metal, itself traveling at speeds up to 60 m/min. This high output feeding and cutting capability makes conventional blanking dies unnecessary and, as a result, allows for optimization of blank shape and nesting optimization to achieve improved blanking yield and support formability.

SET Enterprises and their symbiotic partner Wayne Steel collectively have about 177 full-time UAW employees in Sauk Village.

Installation will begin this summer, with the operational handoff scheduled for the spring of 2019.  We look forward to their continued success as a Partner for Progress.  SET will hire several additional full-time staff including two engineers in the Spring of 2019.
