Free concerts in Brookfield

BritBeat kicks off series Friday evening

Starting this Friday, the village of Brookfield will offer a summer of free music in the band shell at Kiwanis Park, 8820 Brookfield Ave.

Each concert runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. If you’re going, bring a lawn chair or blanket. A rotating list of local food vendor will sell their wares, or you can bring your own munchies.

If it rains, shows are moved indoors to the lower level of the nearby Brookfield Municipal Building.

Here’s the lineup.

BritBeat kicks off the concert series this Friday. This Beatles tribute band progresses through the band’s diverse songs, complete with multiple costume changes as their music evolved.

June 29: Pirates Over 40. The band, which began in 1999, specializes in the songs of Jimmy Buffett, but also plays music made famous by Paul Simon, Van Morrison and others.

July 13: Sway Chicago. The hip, high-energy dance band specializes in Motown, soul, disco, Top 40 and Big Band music.

July 20: The Illinois Brass Band,This band, founded in 1991, has won six North American Brass Band Association championships, and has recorded six CDs

July 27: June’s Got The Cash. Now in its 10^thyear, this tribute band specialize in the music of June Carter and Johnny Cash, complete with bits of country comedy, and vintage costumes.

Aug. 3: Rosie & The Rivets. This four-piece band specializes in playing rockabilly songs from the 1950s and ‘60s like “Memphis Tennessee” and “Twenty-Flight Rock.”

Aug. 10: Midwest Dueling Pianos. The unusual concept band has audience members write song requests on slips of paper delivered to the musicians, who then play their versions of the songs. Be ready: Some audience members may be asked to perform with the band.
