Firefighter Minimum Requirements:
- • Pay a $45.00 non-refundable application processing fee
- • Citizenship: Be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S. (Must meet USCIS Form I-9 at time of hire);
- • Age: Be less than 35 years old by the date of the written examination, unless otherwise exempt by state statute, and at least 21 years old by date of hire;
- • Vision: Applicants are required to meet visual acuity standards with uncorrected vision of 20/100 corrected to 20/30 binocular each eye. Applicants must be able to distinguish between colors and shades as required by the position;
- • Education: Must provide proof of a valid High School Diploma or evidence of a G.E.D. equivalent;
- • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license (with a good driving record) at the time of application; and a valid State of Illinois driver’s license (with a good driving record) at time of appointment;
- • EMT-P: All candidates must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) at the time of conditional offer of employment;
- • FFII: Must be a certified Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter through the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal at the time of conditional offer of employment;
- • CPAT: Provide proof of completion of the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) including Ladder Climb Test with any licensed agency issued no more than 12 months prior to the exam date. CPAT certification must also be valid at time of conditional offer of employment;
- • Residency: Appointed candidates are granted one (1) year to establish residency within a 65-mile geographic area beyond the District boundaries; U.S. citizenship -AND- a resident of the United States for a period of one (1) year prior to the date of the written examination (October 30, 2021);
- • Candidates who receive a passing score on the written exam will be permitted to advance to the oral assessment screening. The passing score will be in accordance with 65 ILCS 5/10-1-7.1;
- • Conditional Offer of Hire: Upon receiving a conditional offer of hire, all candidates must have no felony convictions. Persons with a record of misdemeanor convictions may be disqualified from taking examinations as set forth in 65 ILCS 5/ Article 10-1-7(c). Certain misdemeanor convictions may disqualify candidates for a position at the District. This can be viewed at www.ilga.gov.; Must meet the requirements of an in-depth background investigation and pass a thorough physical evaluation prior to a conditional offer of employment.
Orientation & Testing Information:
Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Doors will open for sign-in at 8:30 a.m., please arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. Test will be held at: Tinley Park Convention Center, 18451 Convention Center Drive, Tinley Park, IL 60477.
