Suspect charged Friday in the murder of Christian Duarte in Cicero
A Cicero man was charged on Friday with the murder of his girlfriend in their Cicero apartment.
Cicero Police responded to a well-being check at 5417 W. 22nd Place on Wednesday, September 7th, 2022.
Upon police arrival, officers were met by a male subject, identified as Esteban Basaldua, and a female relative in front of the residence.
Officers made entry into the 1st floor apartment and observed an unresponsive adult female, identified as Ms. Christian Duarte, 28, who was face down on the living room carpet with signs of violence.
The victim, Ms. Duarte, was pronounced deceased at the scene. It was determined that the victim sustained stab wounds in addition to other blunt force trauma injuries.
After an extensive investigation, Cicero Police Detectives identified Esteban Basaldua as the offender responsible in Duarte’s death.
Basaldua, 27, made several admissions to the crime. The investigation revealed that Basaldua and the victim were involved in an on and off dating relationship, with a history of domestic violence.
Basaldua and the victim had recently moved to Cicero and were living together.
Ms. Duarte was a mother of three children, all under the age of nine.
A review of the facts of the case by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office resulted in a charge for First Degree Murder against Basaldua on Friday.
Esteban Basaldua is currently held at the Cook County Department of Corrections without bond.
