Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar Hosts Property Tax Appeals Workshop

Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar was joined by Berwyn Assessor Jacqueline Pereda and Board of Review Commissioner Tammy Wendt to help residents file property tax appeals and answer other tax related questions

Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar (16th) joined Berwyn Assessor Jacqueline Pereda and Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Tammy Wendt for an informational seminar on how to appeal your property taxes.  The event, which gathered more than 80 residents, was held at the Berwyn Police Department Community room.

“It is critical to give residents the opportunity to get important tax information whenever we can.  We must make sure that officials are not only promoting these events, but give residents all the tools they need to take advantage of these programs,” said Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar.

“I am very proud that we are able to get these resources into the hands of our residents and give them needed support moving forward.”

This workshop went over how and when to file an appeal through the Board of Review website.  It also gave instructions on how to pre-file an appeal, and let attendees view demonstrations of the online appeals process.  This workshop combined important information with accessibility, making sure people were both aware of this program and how they can best obtain these resources.

“Homeowners are experiencing real pain when it comes to their property tax bills and the process starts with fairly valuing their homes,” said 1st District Board of Review Commissioner Tammy Wendt.

“My office is committed to assisting the community in the appeal process. I feel in-person events that allow homeowners to engage with my analysts is the best way to help.”

This seminar is for the community, and thus it is imperative for resident feedback and lived experience to be incorporated into every step of the process. By prioritizing a collaborative environment, elected officials are able to get residents information in ways that have real world benefits in the present to help those who qualify.

“We just concluded another successful appeals outreach event, and received great feedback from attendees.  I wish to thank everyone who came out and made it possible,” said Berwyn Township Assessor Jacqueline
