Presidential candidate Warren endorses Newman for Congress

Democratic Presidential contender Elizabeth Warren announced Tuesday that she is endorsing Marie Newman in the March 2020 Democratic Primary election for The Illinois 3rd Congressional District. The seat is currently held by Congressman Dan Lipinski.

Two other Democrats have also entered the Democratic Primary election contest that will be held on March 17, 2020, activist Rush Darwish and Abraham Matthew. Kenneth J. Yerkes is running as a Republican write-in candidate.

Warren issued a release and also urged district residents to donate to Newman’s campaign.

Newman ran against Lipinski in the March 2018 Democratic Primary and came close to defeating the five term incumbent. The two candidates were separated by only 2,200 votes.

Here is Warren’s statement:

I say it a lot: We need big, structural change in our economy, our government, and our democracy.

We’re only going to get that done with leaders who will fight for it.

I’m endorsing Marie Newman for a lot of reasons, but first among them is the fight she brings to the table — and I want to see people like her in Congress.

That’s why I’m asking you personally: Will you chip in $5 or whatever you can to support Marie Newman’s campaign for Congress?

Voters in Illinois’ Third District have a stark choice on their hands next March. Right now, while women’s rights are under constant attack from Republican lawmakers across America, this district is represented by someone who votes against women’s access to reproductive health care.

In the last election cycle, Marie came within two points of unseating this seven-term member of Congress — this time around, she’s got a real shot at pulling off an incredible upset.

But it’ll take a grassroots movement to get it done. This race is going to be a tough battle. But Marie is running a smart campaign that’s rooted in the principles and values of her district.

Even with the corporate money flowing in to fund her opponent, Marie has pledged not to take a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists — that’s exactly the kind of principled fighter we need in Congress right now.

If we’re going to stop Republicans from rigging the rules for billionaires and wealthy corporations, we need strong Democrats like Marie Newman fighting like hell for working people.

So if you agree that it’s time to elect a progressive to represent Illinois’ Third District, I hope you’ll make a donation to Marie’s campaign today.
