Brannigan vows to stand up to bullies, work for Township

Palos Township Trustee distributes newsletter vowing to stand up to the small group of bullies who have been disrupting Township board meetings over opinion comments she posted on her Facebook page critical of immigration that some accused of being “racist.” Brannigan apologized for the comments saying she never meant to offend anyone and that she does not support discrimination ro racism against anyone, including against Arabs and Muslims. Despite the apologies, some activists have chosen to reject her apologies (while hypocritically only accepting apologies from people they support). Here is Brannigan’s email newsletter:

As many of you know, in July of 2017, a campaign of disruption by politically focused Democratic party activists (many of whom do not live in the Township) sought to force me to resign because of concerns I expressed about immigration on a personal Facebook page. The protests have continued until the present date despite the fact that I have issued three public statements to clarify my statements and also three public apologies to those who may have been offended by the manner in which I had expressed my views.

You can click here to see those statements:  http://www.branniganforcongress.com

These personal attacks against me and the constant disruption at the Township Board meetings have not deterred the board members from continuing to perform the Township business.

While I respect everyone’s rights to express their views, motivation and conduct are important. It is obvious to many that their disruptive protests are driven by partisan politics encouraged by some members of the Democratic Party leadership. They scream, holler and refuse to engage in responsible discussion as demonstrated by many videos of their bullying protests. I feel that is disrespectful to everyone.

But, they have chosen to target the wrong girl. I will continue to stand-up to the bullying while rolling up my sleeves to work towards providing the best possible services to all of the residents of Palos Township, and to strive to always work towards being a better public servant. Everyone makes mistakes, especially in expressing views on social media.

I continue to extend my hand in civil and respectful discussion to put the focus where it belongs, on what’s best for the businesses, homeowners and all of the residents of Palos Township.

I am proud of the many services that Palos Township provides to the poor and hungry, to seniors and our youth. Our Health Services office is staffed with the most compassionate doctors and nurses and is one of the best in the county. I know from speaking with many Township residents that they also agree that the refusal of the protesters to even discuss these real issues the Township is responsible in providing is disturbing.

I will continue to actively defend our rights as American citizens. I will continue to defend our precious Constitution and the Bill of Rights of the United States of America. I am not ashamed of that commitment to principles that encourage responsible differences of opinion, especially those that are driven by a genuine desire to make this the best Township in Cook County.

Thank you for your continued support and your encouragement.

The next Township General Meeting is April 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at 10802 S. Roberts Road, Palos Hills, Illinois.

The Annual Town Hall meeting is scheduled for April 10, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the same location.

Some of the newspaper articles are listed below:

Regarding the above article, the Attorney General of the State of Illinois has concluded that the Township has exhausted all efforts to find a larger venue to host the protesters, but no other facility owned or operated by anyone in the Township will accommodate. You can make your own conclusions as to the reasons why.
