Arab American Illinois Political Coalition to host candidate forum and brunch Feb. 18, 2024
The Arab American Illinois Political Coalition will host its pre-election Candidate Forum and Brunch at Niko’s Banquets on Sunday Feb. 18, 2024 beginning at 10 AM.
The event is open to any candidate who supports Arab American rights and a call for a ceasefire and end to the killing of civilians in the Israel-Gaza war.
Although the Arab American Illinois Political Coalition is a Democratic affiliated organization, formerly known as the Arab American Democratic Club, the group will entertain and support any candidate regardless of party affiliation who supports justice for Arabs and supports a ceasefire and end to the killing of civilians in the Israel-Gaza war.
“We are against all killings, whether it is Jews, Muslims or Christians, Israelis or Palestinians,” said coalition founder Samir Khalil. “We will stand up and support any elected official or candidate who stands up and supports the needs of the Arab American community.”
Arab American Institute President JIm Zogby will be a keynote speaker. Among candidates invited for their support of the Arab American community are:
State Sen. Mike Porfirio (11th Dist)
State Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid (21st Dist)
Cand. Sonia Anne Khalil (State Rep. 36th Dist)
State Rep. Cyril Nichols (32nd Dist)
State Sen. Michael Hastings (17th Dist)
US Rep. Delia Rameriz (3rd District)
Cand. Mahnoor Ahmad (US Rep. 6th Dist)
Khalil said that all candidates who support the Arab American community, which represents more than 450,000 people in the Chicagoland region, are invited to attend and address the organization.
“If you can’t support a ceasefire in a strong way, you can’t support our community and you don’t support genuine peace,” Khalil said.
