Five Southwest and West suburban communities named among state’s safest

Five Southwest and West suburban communities were named as being among the safest communities to live in the State of Illinois in a new survey released by SafeHome.

The five communities listed in the state’s top 20 are Des Plaines (#6), Tinley Park (#8), Oak Lawn (#9), Orland Park (#13) and the Town of Cicero (#14).

The rankings by SafeHome, an organization dedicated to making communities safer and conducting studies to identify at-risk communities around the country, take into consideration a number of factors including actual statistics and trends in violent crimes, property crimes, population and police-to-citizen ratios.

You can view the survey on SafeHome’s website at: www.safehome.org/safest-cities/IL/.

Based on the data, Cicero had a Safety Score of 82.85, Orland Park had 83.29, Oak lawn had 86.61, Tinley Park 87.75, and Des Plaines 88.62.

The top safest city in Illinois, according to the SafeHome study is Wheaton.

SafeHome also published a national list of the country’s Safest Cities based on the same criteria.

SafeHome identified the Top 10 Cities in the nation and Wheaton, Illinois which was number one in the state also ranked number 9 with a score of 90.43. Des Plaines ranked 29th overall in the country. Tinley Park ranked 45th, Oak Lawn ranked 57th out of the Top 100.
