OFPD extinguishes garage fire in Orland Park, no injuries reported
The Orland Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure fire Thursday evening in the 10800 block of Caribou Lane involving an attached residential garage. Upon arrival, all occupants had safely exited the home.
First arriving companies forced entry to access the garage and encountered heavy smoke conditions. Firefighters acted swiftly to contain and extinguish the fire before it could extend into the main living areas of the home.
The fire was later determined to have originated from a rack of battery chargers located in the garage. Thanks to the rapid response and coordinated efforts of units from Orland, Palos and Tinley, the incident was brought under control before the house could be involved. No injuries were reported.
While the fire remains under investigation, officials remind residents to use caution when operating and storing batteries and battery charging equipment.
