Vallas Finishes in First, starts mayoral runoff as clear frontrunner
Candidate Pledges to be a Mayor for All of Chicago
Paul Vallas is the clear first place finisher in the election for Chicago’s Mayor, with early results showing him far ahead of his nearest opponents.
While results will likely not be certified immediately, it is abundantly clear that Vallas will qualify for the runoff and that he will enter it as the clear frontrunner.
Preliminary results show that Vallas is receiving approximately 35% of the vote. The Vallas campaign begins the runoff with over $1 Million cash on hand and will be starting a strong paid media and field organizing push immediately. The campaign expects to announce several high profile endorsements in the coming days.
Vallas will address supporters tonight at his Election Night event and is releasing the following statement:
“I’m incredibly thankful to the people of Chicago for supporting our campaign, but our fight isn’t over yet and we will be spending the next five weeks talking to the people of our city about the need to elect a leader who is transparent, accountable, collaborative, and who puts public safety at the top of our priorities,” said Vallas.
“The City of Chicago needs a leader who will bring our city together. Someone who shares our residents’ values as a lifelong, pro-choice Democrat. Someone who is prepared with the comprehensive plans that we need to restore public safety in our communities, turn around our schools and stabilize our finances. I’m ready to take on that challenge and be a Mayor for all Chicagoans.”
