Fire in Orland Park home spreads to gazebo, deck and wood fence

The Orland Fire Protection District received multiple 911 calls at approximately 4:22 PM on Saturday (April 3, 2021). for a house fire located in the 15500 block of 116th Court. The fire was restricted to a small area of the home but spread rapidly to the outside deck, gazebo and wood fence. No one was injured. A quick response prevented the fire from further damaging the inside of the home.

Engine 3, ambulance 3, Chief 1 and Chief 2 arrived on the scene and found a two story single family residence with heavy fire outside the back of the house including the deck, gazebo and wooden fence.

Due to high wind conditions the fire spread to the outside of the house and was impinging on the interior and attic space of the house.

Fire crews made an aggressive attack on the fire and prevented the fire from getting into the attic and interior of the house.  Multiple crews from the Orland fire District and surrounding communities arrived on the scene and assisted with fire control, search and rescue, and overhaul of the residence.

A 2nd alarm tanker box was called to provide water for firefighting due to no hydrants in the area.  Additional manpower and equipment to the scene and to back fill Orland Fire district stations to cover additional calls. There was heavy smoke damage and minimal fire damage to the interior and attic of the residence.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were noted at this incident. The quick attack by fire crews prevented further damage and as a result of this action the home was saved.

Fire crews had difficulty with rapid fire spread due to high wind conditions and no water supply in the area.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Orland Fire District Investigation Team.  Some of the other fire departments providing coverage and manpower included Palos Fire District, Tinley Park FD, Frankfort FPD, Mokena FPD, Posen FD, Roberts Park FPD and Crestwood. Water tenders were provided by Homer FPD, Plainfield FPD, East Joliet FPD, Manhattan FPD and Rockdale FPD.
