Suspect in Lyons killing arrested, bond court at 26th California tomorrow morning

Chicago Police working with the Lyons Police Department and investigators with the Major Case Assistance Task Force (MCAT) arrested Brian Cruz, a suspected charged with First Degree murder in the November 10 slaying of a Lyons resident Paresh Jhobalia.

Chicago Police with information provided by the Lyons Police and MCAT, and following a tip from a member of the public, arrested Brian “Flako” Cruz Friday (Nov. 30, 2018) during a police-led raid in Little Village in Chicago.

Cruz is accused of killing Paresh Jhobalia, 62, on Nov. 10, 2018 near his home in Lyons and concealing the body in the victim’s vehicle.

Investigators with the Lyons Police and the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) had tracked Cruz to an undisclosed home in Little Village in Chicago and were searching the area when a witness called police to identify the suspect’s location in the 10th Chicago Police District. The arrest was made around noon.

Cruz, 42, and a resident of Lyons himself, has been on the run since Nov. 10 and was charged with First Degree Murder on Nov. 17 after the victim’s body was discovered during a search of his home and property in Lyons.

A bond hearing has been set for early Saturday morning at 26th and California. The victim’s family has been notified of the arrest and are expected to be at the hearing.

Cruz was described as armed and very dangerous and has a history of street gang involvement, police said.

Details of the reason for the killing have not been disclosed.
