Leving Team Reunited Florida Dad with Young Daughter After Mother’s Tragic Death

By Laura Reichel

The Leving team was victorious in court, winning a very complex, tough and emotional case for dad. After their client’s young daughter’s mother tragically passed away and while the little girl was still grieving, the mother’s family members reportedly tried to kick Leving’s client out of his daughter’s life and tried to have him thrown in jail.

Attorney Jeffery M. Leving will talk about this court victory on his weekly radio show, the Dads’ Rights Legal Hour, 9–10 a.m. CDT Saturday, June 20th on Power 92.3 FM.

The show will be available for download on the Dads’ Rights Legal Hour Spotify page at dadsrights.com. Tune in and share this victory by leaving a Google review in support of fighting for due process and equal protection.

Dad is a loving and devoted father, and very active in his daughter’s life. Even after dad moved to Florida, he made sure that he and his daughter remained close. Tragically, the young girl’s mother passed away, and dad immediately rushed to be by his daughter’s side to support her.

Shortly after his arrival in Chicago to be with his daughter, dad learned that she was reportedly being shuttled between different family members of the deceased mother, and that his daughter had no home. He immediately began making plans to bring his daughter back home with him to Florida. His daughter already had a room in his home in Florida and she would be able to immediately transfer to an excellent school near his home. However, his plans came to an abrupt halt when the mother’s family allegedly refused to let him even see his daughter.

Dad knew he needed to fight for his daughter. He didn’t want her to be shuttled around to different places to sleep, she needed a home. Most of all, she needed her dad. This father turned to attorney Jeffery Leving for the legal help he needed to fight for his daughter.

The Leving team quickly designed a strategy to reunite this loving father with his daughter. They passionately argued to the judge that this dad, not the mother’s family members, should be granted sole custody. They also had to persuade the judge to allow dad to take his daughter to Florida with him. They won.

However, the mother’s family continued to fight dad.  The Leving team feared that they felt no empathy for this young girl who just lost her mother and that they were determined to drive her out of her father’s life.  When dad arrived to pick up his daughter at the maternal aunt’s house, the mother’s family allegedly called the police and tried to have him arrested. When the police arrived, dad showed them the Court Order the Leving team had won for his protection, and instead of arresting him, they helped reunite him with his daughter. This was a very emotional and heartwarming experience. This shows that Court Orders can work.

Thanks to the Leving team’s hard work in a tough case, dad’s daughter is where she belongs, living with her dad, especially while grieving the loss of her mother. Dad never gave up, and neither did the Leving team.

On another note, this Friday marks Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in 1865. Attorney Jeffery Leving will be a guest speaker at the 6th Annual Bronzeville Juneteenth Celebration this Saturday, which is proudly being co-hosted by the Fatherhood Educational Institute, a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to helping fathers and their children. Don’t forget to check out ourblackheritage.com for more information on Juneteenth and African American history.

On a final note, Father’s Day is the most important day of the year celebrating the vital role fathers play in the lives of their children. A powerful reminder of why fathers matter.

Matrimonial Attorney Jeffery M. Leving is the recipient of the U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from the President of the United States in recognition of his 7,500 hours of service to this great nation. Leving co-authored the foundational Illinois joint custody law and has dedicated his career to safeguarding children and reuniting them with their fathers.
