Veteran’s Appreciation Day Holiday Luncheon to be held Dec. 12, 2025
Illinois Senator Mike Porfirio will join local legislators in celebrating and honoring America’s veterans at a Holiday luncheon to be held at Morton College on Dec. 12, 2025.
Among those also attending will be State Sen. Javier Cervantes, State Rep. Lisa Hernandez, State Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid, and retiring Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia.
The tribute to veterans will be held at Morton College, 3801 S. Central Avenue, in Cicero, Illinois.
Registration is encouraged to attend the luncheon, which will begin at 11:30 AM and end at 1 PM.

A veteran himself, Porfirio serves as the Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs committee and the Chairman of the Breakthrough Therapies for Veteran Suicide Prevention Advisory Council. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy Annapolis, Maryland in 2004 and served over 7.5 years on Active Duty.
Porfirio is an Afghanistan War Veteran where he served as a Police Advisor and earlier deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on security patrols of the Iraqi Oil Terminals and responded to the Pakistani earthquake relief efforts. He has also deployed with the US Navy Hospital Ship Comfort on a humanitarian mission to Central and South America. He has over 24.5 years of cumulative and continued uniformed service.

Hanania also writes about Middle East issues for the Arab News, and The Arab Daily News criticizing government policies in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Hanania was named "Best Ethnic American Columnist" by the New America Media in November 2007, and is the 2009 recipient of the SPJ National Sigma Delta Chi Award for column writing.
