Kat Abughazaleh raises over $520,000 in Q2 of 2025 with more than $630,000 cash on hand for 2026 Democratic primary election

In the second quarter of 2025, Kat Abughazaleh raised more than $520,000, bringing her total amount raised since launching her campaign to approximately $900,000, averaging $32 per donation from about 22,000 donors.

Kat’s campaign currently has more than $650,000 cash on hand, $630,000 of which are primary campaign dollars.

Kat has a stunning amount of in-district financial support, having earned contributions from over 700 Ninth District residents, and over 3,000 people from across Illinois.

But support for Kat is not only made clear by contributions made to her campaign. Last week — with nine months to go before the primary — a new poll showed her within single digits of leading the race and with the most room to grow her support of the leading candidates.

“As ICE illegally invades our communities and MAGA extremists in Congress push through a budget bill that would strip healthcare from millions of working people, Democrats need a progressive fighter — not another career politician,” said congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh. “I’m honored and energized by the support we’re seeing across the Ninth District, not just in donations, but from incredible volunteers too. One thing is abundantly clear: this moment demands people-first politics and a new and bold generation of leadership.”

“From Chicago to Skokie to Algonquin to Crystal Lake, we’re thrilled about the movement that is building for Kat and her people-first platform,” said Sam Weinberg, Kat’s campaign manager.  “For Kat, it’s about showing what’ can become a reality, not just promising what could be possible. That’s why she’s not pouring all of her contributions into consultants and ineffective ad buys. Instead, while we’re doing what we need to do to win, Kat is also allocating campaign resources toward mutual aid programs and supporting community members in need with essentials, including toiletries, clothing, and WiFi access at our campaign headquarters. We’re in it to win, but not just for the sake of sending Kat to Congress. The people of District Nine come first and for that reason are the focus of this hyper-local campaign.”

Kat has devoted her career to fighting right-wing extremism, majoring in International Relations at George Washington University and monitoring Fox News’ primetime lineup for Media Matters (MMFA), a progressive watchdog organization, from 2020 to 2024, and contributing to outlets like Mother Jones and Zeteo News. Last year, she was also deposed by Elon Musk’s army of corporate lawyers in his lawsuit against her former employer. Kat once again caught the attention of the world’s richest man as a congressional candidate when she advocated for universal healthcare for her community on primetime TV recently.
