Madigan accuses Trump of attacking sexual harassment survivors
Madigan: Trump Administration’s Proposed Title IX Overhaul is an Attack on Sexual Assault Survivors
Michael J. Madigan, chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois, issued the following statement regarding Friday’s action by the Trump Administration’s Education Department that proposed new rules governing school sexual harassment and assault allegations:
“The Trump administration’s sweeping proposal to overhaul Title IX, diminish funding and minimize schools’ obligations to students who come forward to report assault is a direct attack on all survivors and risks the safety of students everywhere. These harmful actions will further ostracize students, women, minorities and many others that have been impacted by sexual assault.
“The results of the recent election overwhelmingly prove that Illinoisans rejected the Trump-GOP agenda. As leader of my caucus and the Democratic Party of Illinois, I will work with my colleagues to create better and safer school environment for our children and families. Together, we encourage survivors and advocates to make their voices heard. There is still time to push back on these faulty, radical and harmful actions against the rights of women and all survivors.”
