Garage fire in Orland Park, no injuries
The Orland Fire District was alerted at 9:46am of a house fire on Wednesday, August 11th by a neighbor that noticed smoke coming from an unoccupied house in the 14900 block of Dogwood.
The first arriving companies arrived within 3 minutes from the time of the alarm. Battalion 6 arrived on the scene and found smoke coming from the second floor roof vents as well as the rear of the structure.
Engine 2 arrived on the scene and forced entry through a service door into the garage.
Fire crews found the house full of smoke and a fire in the lower level utility room that had extended into the second floor bedroom.
Fire crews made an aggressive interior attack and deployed two handlines to quickly extinguish the fire.
Multiple fire crews from the Orland Fire District arrived on the scene and assisted with fire control, search and rescue, and overhaul of the structure.
A full still was called to provide additional manpower and equipment to the scene as well as covering numerous additional calls for service within the Fire District.
The home was not occupied at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries. The home is currently uninhabitable.
The homeowners were out of town at the time of the fire. The fire is currently under investigation by the Orland Fire District Investigation Team. Other fire departments providing coverage and manpower included Palos Fire, Tinley Park, Crestwood, Matteson, Palos Heights, and Lemont.
The early notification to the fire department by an observant neighbor helped keep further damage to a minimum.
