Bridgeview police rescue hostages early Sunday morning in domestic squabble
Bridgeview, IL – The Bridgeview Police were assisted by SWAT Officers late Saturday night (March 7) in response to a report of an armed gunman in a domestic hostage situation and the “aggravated discharge” of a weapon.
The report involved a domestic argument between the eldest son, Mustafa Farraj, 20, who held his mother and a 13-year-old son with autism at gunpoint.
The incident was reported to police at around 11 PM Saturday evening by a 17-year-old family member who was apparently confronted by the suspect with the weapon that was later identified as an “Air Pistol/Rifle.”
The 17-year-old had fled the home after being confronted and walked to the Bridgeview Police Department several blocks away, where he reported the threat.Â
After police arrived, the mother and the 13-year-old child were allowed to leave the home, located on the 7800 block of Oketo, and the suspect remained inside.
Eventually, at around 1 AM on Sunday (March 8, 2026), the suspect was coaxed by police to come to the door where he was apprehended, and the weapon was confiscated without anyone being injured.
Police said Mustafa Farraj, 20, had an outstanding Aggravated Assault warrant, and another Aggravated Assault charge is being filed.
“The most important fact is that no one was injured, and this was resolved safely for all,” said Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha.
“I want to thank our officers and the support we received from SWAT to prevent this from escalating into a more dangerous and tragic incident.”
No one was injured during the incident, and there was no reported damage to the home property.
Bridgeview was assisted by officers from the Bedford Police Department, Summit Police Department, Oak Lawn Police Department, and Hometown SWAT team.
