Kat Abughazaleh Raises $1 Million in Q4, Continuing Record-Breaking Grassroots Momentum in IL-09

Congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh announced today that her campaign has raised over $1,000,000 in the fourth quarter of 2025, continuing a surge of grassroots support that has made her one of the strongest insurgent candidates in the country.

As of December 10, the campaign has raised $2.5 million, with an average contribution of $31 from more than 80,000 donors. Kat continues to show significant in-district and state support, with more than 1,750 Ninth District residents and over 7,500 Illinois donors contributing to her campaign so far — more than any other campaign in this race has disclosed.

This news follows months of sustained small-dollar support, rapid volunteer expansion, and Kat becoming the first candidate in IL-09 to go up on cable this cycle – powered entirely by people, not corporate PACs, billionaires,  or Republican megadonors.

“Our campaign continues to break every expectation because working people in this district are hungry for real representation. This race is about who voters can trust to fight for them – not the political machines and not the billionaire class,” said congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh.

“Raising $1 million in Q4, entirely from grassroots donors, is more than a fundraising milestone. It’s proof that voters want someone who is willing to take on the fights that matter – lowering costs for working families, defending democracy, and rejecting the corrupt influence of corporate money in politics.”

Kat has devoted her career to fighting right-wing extremism, majoring in International Relations at George Washington University and monitoring Fox News’ primetime lineup for Media Matters (MMFA), a progressive watchdog organization, from 2020 to 2024, and contributing to outlets like Mother Jones and Zeteo News. Last year, she was also deposed by Elon Musk’s army of corporate lawyers in his lawsuit against her former employer. Kat once again caught the attention of the world’s richest man as a congressional candidate when she advocated for universal healthcare for her community on primetime TV during the campaign. Most recently, she’s been federally indicted for exercising her First Amendment rights at the Broadview ICE facility.
