Stagg High school Charger receives 1st place in translation competition
Amos Alonzo Stagg High School senior Iza Lepkowski received first place in the Polish-English division of the 2022-23 Illinois High School Translation Competition hosted by the European Union Center at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Forty-three students from 24 schools in Illinois participated in the competition and translated an intermediate- to advanced-level text from Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Polish, Swedish, or Ukrainian into English.
The winners and honorable mentions were invited to an award ceremony at the Illini Center in Chicago, and the Consul General of Greece in Chicago, Emmanuel Koubarakis, was there to give out the prizes.
Throughout Iza’s time as a Charger, she participated in cross country, literary magazine and was a member of the Scholastic Bowl team. She is also a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and is a participant on the Senior Advisory Team.
