Harlem Avenue closed from 86th and 87th pending investigation of pedestrian struck by vehicle
(UPDATE: Harlem Avenue was re-opened early Saturday morning)
Bridgeview police have shut down Harlem Avenue between 86th and 87th both Southbound and Northbound lanes pending an investigation of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle this evening (Friday March 24, 2023).
The closure came at about 8:50 PM and will remain in effect until further notice pending the outcome of the investigation, Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha said Friday evening.
Police are investigating an accident in which a pedestrian who was crossing Harlem Avenue Eastbound when he was struck by a vehicle.
The Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team (SMART) has been notified and is responding.
Lanes may be opened later pending the investigation. But currently, motorists are advised to avoid that area and intersection.
Police did not release an identification of the victim who is in critical condition and is currently being treated at the scene. The pedestrian is expected to be taken to Christ Hospital for further treatment.
