District 230 students receive journalism awards
Consolidated High School District 230 newspaper students from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools amassed several individual awards in five separate categories at the recent Southwest Suburban Conference High School Newspaper Conference hosted at Stagg High School.
Eight students placed in five individual contests, with two 1st place ribbons, two 2nd place awards and four 3rd place finishes.
In total, approximately 100 students from nine area high schools participated in the conference.
Several workshops were held dealing with all aspects of journalism, from hyper local news to online publications and from breaking news to human interest stories.
Speakers shared the unpredictable nature of journalism, how to decipher what issues matter in the towns they cover, and how a reporter needs to be a jack of all trades.
