Hurley and Cunningham Invite Residents to Free Prescription Drug Takeback Event July 9 in Merrionette Park

Residents are being encouraged to bring their unused and expired prescription medication for safe disposal at a free community event hosted by state Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, and state Sen. Bill Cunningham, D-Chicago, scheduled for Saturday, July 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Merrionette Park Village Hall, located at 11720 S. Kedzie Ave.

Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos will also be on hand to provide free oak saplings and bags of compost to residents while supplies last.

“Unused or expired prescription drugs can lead to poisoning, overdose and abuse if not properly disposed of,” Hurley said.

“It is not safe to flush these drugs down the toilet or throw them away – please take advantage of take back events like this one to safely remove drugs from your home.”
