Iron Workers Local 1 endorses Congresswoman Marie Newman in 6th District Democratic Primary

Congresswoman Marie Newman announced that she had received an endorsement from Iron Workers Local 1 on Tuesday Dec. 21, 2021.

“Congresswoman Marie Newman is delivering for iron workers in Chicago and Cook County. She helped pass a historic bipartisan infrastructure package that will allow us to rebuild crumbling infrastructure across our state, all while creating thousands of good paying union jobs, ” said Iron Workers Local 1 President Craig Satalic.

“Representative Newman is an ally to organized labor and Iron Workers Local 1 are proud to endorse her for re-election in Illinois 6th District.”

“The men and women of Iron Workers Local 1 helped build Chicagoland and they will help us rebuild as we implement the bipartisan infrastructure bill, repairing aging roads and bridges and investing in green and more efficient public infrastructure,” said Congresswoman Marie Newman.

“I am truly honored to have their support and I look forward to continuing to work with our partners in organized labor as we push forward to protect the right to organize, modernize our infrastructure, and build an economy that works for everyone.”

An endorsement from Iron Workers Local 1 adds to Congresswoman Marie Newman’s growing support from organized labor, underscoring her work as a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in passing a historic bipartisan infrastructure package. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act set aside $17 billion in formula funding for critical infrastructure projects across the state.

Two critical pieces of legislation introduced by Congresswoman Newman, the All Stations Accessibility Program Act and the Rail Center for Excellence Bill, were passed into law with this package. This legislation will make commuter and freight rail operations safer and more efficient all while creating good paying union jobs.

Other labor organizations endorsing Congresswoman Marie Newman for re-election in Illinois’ 6th District include:

SEIU Illinois State Council
National Nurses United
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 241 & Local 308
Transportation Communications Union/IAM
