Join the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area, America’s FIRST National Heritage Area, celebrates it’s 35th Anniversary on Sunday August 25, 2019 from 10 AM until 4 PM. Ride on the I&M Canal Boat, 754 1st St, LaSalle, Illinois 61301.
In August 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill establishing the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area, America’s first National Heritage Area. This “new kind of national park” was the first explicit marriage of preservation, conservation, recreation, and economic development.
Join us as the I&M Canal National Heritage Area celebrates the anniversary with a I&M Canal Boat Tour aboard the replica canal boat “The Volunteer”. Climb aboard & learn about why the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage area is so important in America’s history & how the I&M Canal created Chicago!

Veterans Commission Hosts Second Annual Veterans Golf Classic September 10
The second annual Village of Orland Park Veterans Commission’s 2019 Veterans Golf Classic is set for Tuesday, September 10 at Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park. This year’s event is presented by Charles Schwab.
Registration is now open and is limited to 144 golfers on a first come, first serve basis. The all-day outing includes a continental breakfast / check-in at 8 a.m. and a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on the north course. The day also includes an on-course barbecue lunch featuring craft beers, a cocktail reception and a 3:30 p.m. dinner.
“The tradition of a golf outing hosted by the Mayor of Orland Park dates back a long time,” said Mayor Keith Pekau. “I remember when Mayor Mel Doogan hosted ‘Doogan Day’ to raise money for the recreation department when I was a kid in the 70s.”
The Guest of Honor for this year’s outing is Medal of Honor recipient and Author of Zero to Hero, Allen Lynch. Lynch will have autographed copies of his book available for purchase at the event; presale copies are available on the registration form.

Golf and dinner tickets are $150 per person and include 18 holes of golf, cart, a continental breakfast, lunch on the course, cocktails, and dinner. Golf only tickets are $120 per person and include 18 holes of golf, ½ cart, continental breakfast, and lunch on the course.
Dinner-only tickets are $50 and include cocktails and dinner.
Sponsorships are available, including a $250 hole sponsor on one course, a $300 hole sponsor on two courses, a $350 continental breakfast sponsor, a $500 cocktail hour sponsor, a $750 wine pull sponsor, a $1,000 south course cart sponsor, a $1,000 north course cart sponsor, a $1,000 lunch on the course sponsor, and an exclusive $1,500 grand prize sponsor.
Proceeds from this year’s outing will benefit the Orland Park Veterans Commission, the American Legion Orland Memorial Post 111, the Orland-Palos Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2604, PAWWS, Veterans Garage, and Veterans Voices.
“We invite everyone to enjoy a day playing golf for a great cause,” said Tom Dubelbeis, Interim Village Manager and organizer of the event. “The Orland Park community has always come together to support veterans and the organizations that provide support to veterans.”
