Celebrate the I&M Canal National Heritage

Join the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area, America’s FIRST National Heritage Area, celebrates it’s 35th Anniversary on Sunday August 25, 2019 from 10 AM until 4 PM. Ride on the I&M Canal Boat, 754 1st St, LaSalle, Illinois 61301.

In August 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill establishing the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area, America’s first National Heritage Area. This “new kind of national park” was the first explicit marriage of preservation, conservation, recreation, and economic development.

Join us as the I&M Canal National Heritage Area celebrates the anniversary with a I&M Canal Boat Tour aboard the replica canal boat “The Volunteer”. Climb aboard & learn about why the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage area is so important in America’s history & how the I&M Canal created Chicago!
